ReplicatorG is an open-source GCode based controller for RepRap / CNC machines. It has 3 main goals: 1. Be as simple to use, and as easy to install as possible. Note: Java now comes bundled with ReplicatorG on Windows, and should not need to be installed separately. Install Python. The program that slices your model (turns it from a 3D model into a printable path) is called Skeinforge. It is written in python, which you'll need to install. You'll want Python 2.6.
Initial efforts to make ReplicatorG work with the RepRap 5D versions of the firmware (vanilla RepRap and Ultimaker) were undertaken by ErikDeBruijn and D1pl01d. There's now a version that includes checksums and error recovery (D1pl01d's work) and generally has many improvements such as supporting different build volumes, etc.
ReplicatorG was abandoned shortly before Makerbot was bought by Stratasys.A fork is continuing development.
